"Waiting times in Epsom's pharmacy"

About: Epsom Hospital

Invariably, the wait for prescriptions at the pharmacy in Epsom Hospital is inordinately long. Today, they excelled themselves. People were waiting over 1.5 hours for routine prescriptions and I left saying that I would pick mine up later. I returned nearly two hours later and was still kept waiting well over 10 minutes for my prescriptions.

I complained at the ridiculously long waiting times and was told that it was because of lack of staff. I have, on occasion, been downstairs and watched the pharmacists at work. They do not exactly pressurise themselves to work swiftly. I suggest that if they were given more pressure, they may work quicker and more efficiently. Absolutely everything one asks for involves a long wait, whether it is to speak to a staff member or pick up drugs.

I am thoroughly dissatisfied. The situation has worsened over the years. They should get moving and become efficient. I am fed up making excuses for NHS staff. I do not believe they are understaffed.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate that waits can be too long in our pharmacy departments, and apologise that you have experienced this first hand. However, our pharmacy teams are very busy and work hard to provide a high level of service to our patients and our staff. It is vital that the pharmacy staff work efficiently but accurately, and this is exactly what they aim to do.
