"Fracture clinic outpatients"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

My experience of attending the outpatients clinic at the royal oldham hospital was not very good at all. I found that the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. It was very unpersonalised, the nurses forgot about me on one occasions so my wait was extended unnecessarily, until I asked where I was in the queue! I was suddenly seen right away!

I saw a different doctors every time i attended. The last doctor I saw did not introduce themself, they told me to sit down and did not even make eye contact. In fact the doctor looked like they really didn't want to be there and did not involve me in any decision-making. I asked whether I needed physiotherapy and the doctor said that "mobilising" is physio and discharged me.

The doctor advised that they would refer me to orthotics but did not know how long this would take for me to get an appointment, two weeks on I am still waiting. My injury remains painful and my movements are restrictive. I have been back to my GP due to my symtoms as she was appalled due to my injury and I have now been advised to self refer to physiotherapy.

I hope I don't ever need to attend this department again. They need lessons in personalisation and communicating with their internal departments. Nothing is "joined up"
