I completed my second visit to the department's 'outreach' [at Richardson Hospital, Barnard Castle]: new hearing aids for both ears; the previous ones - fitted by SpecSavers, Bishop Auckland - had died and that company had no suggestions for what I should do. An extraordinary contrast: the two members of Audiology who tested and fitted me were completely professional, while being patient and informative. The treatment itself seemed 'science fiction', with tests, software and re-tests galore.. It was so very impressive, and heartening. Of course, the joy is being able to hear (without guessing, snubbing and all the other embarrassments a deaf person endures).
Thank you.
