"Emergency visit to Lincoln A and E"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

After an ECG at my GPs I was given a letter to take to the hospital immediately, I informed not to drive and have someone take me or they would call an ambulance.. When I arrived at A and E I have the letter I had been given to the reception I was told to take a seat... I was called to see the nurse for assessment, had a chest X-ray and told to wait, had some blood taken and an ECG .. Told to wait .. Had another ECG.. Told to wait to see a doctor. I had arrived at the hospital in the evening and it was almost 6 h before I saw a doctor... My doctor had sent me to the hospital because she thought I was having a heart attack... Apparently I was having an angina attack... I left the hospital in the early hours of the next morning still with the pain in my chest and told to wait for a letter so I can under go more tests for angina.. Told to take paracetamol and ibrophine for the pain.., not happy with the time it took and the way I was treated..having to ask the reception 4 times when I would be seen, who at times were rude....this is my reason for the score I have given....

Dear Disappointed Lincoln

I am sorry to read that you had a long wait during a recent visit to A&E, the department had seen an increase in activity recently which has unfortunately led to some delays. The nurse who performed the ECG will have taken this to be reviewed by a senior doctor to rule out any acute changes which may have indicated a heart attack; blood samples are also sent to look for specific changes related to heart damage. I apologise if you were not made aware of this as this may have lessened your anxieties and is certainly something I need to make the team aware of by sharing your concerns.

If you would like me to review your attendance in more detail I will need your name and date of birth. If you could contact the PALS team on 01522 707071 or at PALS@ulh.nhs.uk. quoting reference CO388419 I would then be able to report back to you.

Regards

Karen Hansord – A&E Sister
