I am under the care of the North Ayrshire 3 Towns Resource Centre CMHT. Provided by the CPN OTs.
I was led to believe their remit was to help me manage better in and outside of my home by addressing my physical disabilities, as well as the symptoms of my PTSD. Doing this by providing access to services that provide aids in the home and helping with my severe social anxiety, by employing graduated exposure therapy.
Instead, as I struggle to get in and out the bath, I was given, one aid, a bath seat. Which was of no earthly use and when I told them it was of no use, they laughed and just left it at that rather than trying to find an alternative. I have also told them several times I forget to take my meds, due to memory issues, with no help forthcoming from them. Although it is part of their 'plan' for me going forward to remember to take my meds!
In Jun I had to cancel my appt and the next one they gave me meant it would be 3 months between appts. Leaving me still struggling mentally and physically. Long and short of it being in that time, I was desperate for a support worker/advocate and by more luck than judgement reached out to the social care team, who put me on to the Dirrans, who put me back to social care.
Their OT got involved, came out saw I needed help, tried to contact CPN OT, who didn't bother getting back to them, so I was passed to the disability team, where after several more stressful phone calls, I got a proper assessment from a nice member of staff. Finally, I found someone who was good at their job, and the one I feel the CPN OTs should have done. I am now on a list for a bath cushion and a device to remind me to take my life-sustaining meds.
When the CPN OTs finally came back, I explained I had been in touch with all of the above and how stressful it had been but at least, once the aids were in place, I could get further ahead with 'their' plan. In response I got a lecture on how some people aren't ready to do the work to stick to the plan and how it's wasting their time (and mine) if I'm not in a place to work with them, how both parts need to come together.
Needless to say, as I (and the social care OT) feel we have done work in getting the aids in place for the physical side of 'their' plan, I am raging that this was not recognised.
When I asked for it to be recognised, as they were insinuating I wasn't trying no-one did. The eventual response was that I had taken the wrong thing out of what they say and one of the CPN OTs tried to having a staring contest with me, which was extremely triggering and I became angrier and told them to leave.
I feel due to this unprofessional, uncaring, inept behaviour, I was so wound up, all of my coping strategies failed and I had to have a Dr come to my home, over 24hrs laters, to give me something to help me finally get a sleep and contain my emotions. (don't get me started on the disgraceful behaviour of the member Crisis Resolution Team)
This incident has been formally reported but I felt the need to reveal here the behaviour and attitude I experienced, so that others who suffer the same, realise they do not need to put up with it.
