"Once you get past the ignorant bunch of..."

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

What I liked

Once you get past the ignorant bunch of people in the admission area,or holding room as I would name it, the whole experience changed fro very bad to extreemley good.In my case it took the best part of eight hours with a complete lack of information. On entering theatre 5 the staff and the surgeon were of the highest quality. You will not find better anywhere in the world. The op went well, back on Gray Ward after the op the care was brilliant. My personal thanks and gratitude though goes to the surgeon, the anathesist, and the after care people. Now at home recovering, the evidence of their work is obvious in the way I feel.Thank you all.

What could be improved

rriving early for my admission,(7a.m.) I was allowed in the admission area on the 4th. floor. I was left to stew in the plastic chair with no drink or information for the next 7hours.Finally the body and mind could take no more.I was forced to ask the question. When am I likely to be seen.? You were not due to go down til this afternoon anyway, was the response. Why on earth could I have not arrived at lunch time,I replied. It is the doctors fault, came the response.Unbearable, unbelieveable, and totally unnecessary.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time and trouble to post on NHS Choices. We are extremely pleased to learn that the care you received from the surgeon, anaesthatist and staff on Gray ward was of a high standard. However, your experience on admission is cause for great concern.

We would welcome the opportunity to provide you with a personal reply regarding your experience and if you wish (and have not done so already) please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (pals@stgeorges.nhs.uk) or the complaints and improvements department (complaints@stgeorges.nhs.uk).

Thank you again for your feedback.
