What I liked
I made my way to the outpatient’s casualty department after severing an artery in my thump after a glass jug broke in my hand. I wrapped a tea towel around my hand and told the receptionist I had cut my hand badly and blood had spurted out of the wound and up the walls in my kitchen. I was told to take a seat and wait my turn in outpatients. Fortunately there was only two people in front of me so was seen after 20 minutes. The nurse called the doctor who stitched the wound both the nurse and doctor were first class. The doctor asked me how long I had been waiting and was concerned when I said 20 minutes. The triage was non existent.
What could be improved
Educate the reception staff to at least pass some admissions for immediate assessment.
Anything else?
The actual care and reassurance given by both doctor and nurse was excellent.
