What I liked

How close the hospital is to my home. A and E got me through into a bay within minutes of my arrival and gave me drugs straight away to get the pain under control. The staff in A & E were fantastic and they got me sorted with a bed within the hour. My consultant was very good, straight forward and to the point which is what you need. Some of the nurses on M ward were fab and some of the night staff .

What could be improved

A lot! I was kept waiting 3 days for a scan on my gall bladder because i was admitted over the band holiday weekend. This was not acceptable i was in agony, constantly vommiting bile because of the infection and pain, very rarely given strong enough pain killers unless i begged for them (this happened on G Ward and i'm lead to believe that i am not the only person unhappy with G W\rd). Was moved to an all male ward from G ward for 1 night - not acceptable. Moved to M ward where i spent the majority of my time. Was much better. Had my operation finally, had open surgery but no catheter was put in so i wet myself when out of surgery - very embarrassing considering i couldn't get up and was waiting 20 - 30 mins for nurses to come with bed pans etc. just slow care and a lot of the student staff were terrible, not bothered whatsoever about the care of patients, why they are going into the care profession is beyond me. Not everything was bad but a lot was. The food was horrific, made me so sick. The nurses on M Ward were fab and i thank them so so much for their care, nothing was too much trouble and they often took the time to talk to me and make me comfortable. I was bundled out of there to the discharge lounge with no after care advice but go to your own nurse in your gp surgery for sutures out.

Anything else?

This hospital has fab staff in general it is a small amount of staff that do not want to be there and do not care for their patients. Having to beg for pain relief is not acceptable. I have raised these points and more with the chief of nursing who is investigating but i felt i should make some of my points public.
