"Good experience but visiting times not clear"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Everything was excellent while we were waiting to give birth. The only thing that could be done better is more frequent checking how dilated I was. I was originally checked and was 1cm but after an hour and half of contractions I kept asking to get examined as I felt as though I was moving on. When I was examined again I was 8cm and rushed to the birth centre. After the birth I was told my partner could stay over night but when we were being moved to the post natal ward I was told my partner couldn't enter the ward and I had to say bye in the corridor. When I got on the ward other partners where there and stayed over and I was told my partner couldn't come until 1000 in the morning. Other than them 2 points it was a good experience and excellent service.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of our maternity service. I am sorry to hear that you received conflicting information about your partner staying over. Please accept our apologies for any distress that this caused. We are planning to introduce ward information for partners staying over in the next few weeks to clarify the situation for staff and visitors. Additionally if you want to discuss your birth experience and look into this in more depth on your behalf I am more than happy to do this. Please contact me directly at:

Thank you once again for your feedback

We always welcome feedback from our women and as a result of your previous comments we have made a change.

A ward information leaflet is now at every bedside on the postnatal ward and includes guidance on partners staying over.

Once again thank you for taking the time to share your experience because it has led to improving our maternity service. Image title
