"8 weeks to send me a letter after it was written"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Xrays & Scans

(as the patient),

I was in hospital at the beginning of May where my care by the nursing staff had been excellent. Prior to discharge on the I was advised that I would receive a letter regarding results etc from the consultant in due course. Having had xrays and been quite unwell I was keen to make sure all was ok.

I received a call from the xray department in the middle of June to ask me to come in for another xray. Having received no information I was unclear as to why. The person on the phone advised that a follow up xray had been requested from the consultant.

I found this strange however I went along and was advised that the results should follow in about 3-4 weeks. I am generally an upbeat person but I have to admit to feeling a little worried.

Last week I received a letter from the consultant. It was dictated on the 26th May but typed up on the 19th of July! It confirmed the xray has shown something but medication should have taken care of the issue. It also mentioned a follow up xray next to which it had "awaiting results".

Last time I checked we are living in a modern world with modern communication methods. How on earth can it take 11 weeks from discharge and 8 weeks from dictation for a letter to be sent out! I wonder how long it will take for my follow up results. 3-4 weeks has long since past!

Dear Claak58

Please accept my most sincere apologies for not responding to your posting.

Would it be possible for you to get in touch with me to discuss the concerns that you have raised, I would really like to investigate the issues further as this will help us to understand what has happened and look at how we can improve the service we are providing.

I was pleased to hear that the care you received whilst in hospital was excellent, however I can't help but think that you must be frustrated by the delays that followed since being discharged from hospital.

I hope you are recovering well, and look forward to hearing from you soon, you can contact me, Pauline Marland, Person Centred, Patient Experience Coordinator, on 01324 566523 or alternatively you can email me on p.marland@nhs.net

Kindest regards

Pauline Marland

Dear Claak58

I was wondering if you had phoned me yesterday following my response. I have picked up a message on my voice mail, unfortunately the message was cut off part way through the message and I wasn't able to get a contact number. Would you mind giving me a call back?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards

Pauline Marland
