I attended the fracture clinic for a follow up regarding an MRI scan on my neck. I had spinal fusion surgery at Chorley 2 1/2 years ago and have a lot of pain in my back. I had to wait for two and a half hours on really uncomfortable chairs as the appointment was running late. There was no explanation why it was so late and I only realised when I saw the consultant that the person who I usually saw was unable to get to the clinic so I saw someone else. I felt that the person who I saw had little understanding of my ongoing problems whereas the other consultant was very helpful and wanted to try to find a solution. I was not examined, few questions were asked, and I was told that 'sometimes we don't know what causes the pain'. Basically, there is nothing more they can do for me and pain management was the way forward. I am 51 years old, have been off sick for the past 5 months and I feel that my life is ruined. I don't expect a magic spell to make me better, but I feel like I wasn't taken seriously and there was no understanding or empathy for my situation. Also, the person I usually see had suggested an operation to remove excess bone which is trapping a nerve, but the person I saw did not recommend it as they would have to undo the fusion in my spine - which I hadn't been told about. If all avenues have been explored and they still can't find what is wrong with my back I might have been able to accept it better, but to be left at a dead end with no hope is horrible. I still have a life ahead of me, which looks like being one of constant pain and becoming more and more disabled.
