"staff at CMU and labour ward were amazing!"

About: Basildon University Hospital / Maternity

I had developed a large haematoma after giving birth to my son , who was born 2 weeks early and arrived just under an hour after getting to the hospital. I was sent to surgery once under local anaesthetic but after a few checks over a couple of hours the doctors and surgeons wasn't happy with the blood loss and sent me back down to theatre under general anaesthetic, I had spent 7 days in CMU , the midwives and students were very helpful. polite and took total care of me. I was treated for my pre-eclampsia and i started showing signs of having sepsis which again i was treated very quickly. I had regular blood tests and was monitored hourly and had a total of 8 blood transfusions. As the haematoma was very large it was rare in this hospital but the surgeons , midwives and doctors were amazing with regards to the treatment and to putting my mind at ease with everything going on. I had left the hospital 10 days after the birth and had plenty of follow up treatments, scans and blood tests to ensure everything was healing and that my iron levels , blood pressure etc was above average . Thought i would leave a review as so many negative comments are made about this hospital and staff when they saved my life and tried their best to research and help deal with the situation. But most importantly my son was born healthy .

We are pleased that your recent experience of care by the maternity team at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was a good one. We will forward on your kind words to the staff concerned.

Please remember that any woman who has given birth at Basildon University Hospital, no matter how long ago, is able to self-refer to our ‘birth afterthoughts service’.
