"First night out in ages - pain and sickness free."

About: New Victoria Hospital / Endoscopy New Victoria Hospital / Outpatients

(as the patient),

I would just like to say a massive thank you to my consultant Ms Moyes and her team for the treatment I received at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for Ileostomy surgery. This was my second major surgery and as much as I cannot fault my first consultant one bit as he was amazing and I was gutted when he retired as I wasn't sure who would become my consultant, however I needn't have worried about this because Ms Moyes is just as amazing.

I do however feel I had a completely different experience this time around and I feel this is due to the aftercare first in HDU and then 9A. The staff of 9A are very happy caring people who always have a smile on their face no matter what, esp the nurses I had Siobhan, Kay, Caroline, Noreen and Anne. Ms Moyes came and checked in with me a few hours after surgery and then again every morning until I was discharged.

Ms Moyes I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being you and caring about your work, I know I am in safe hands with you as my consultant. Although this was a very hard decision for me to make I felt at ease every step of the way and I think it will be the best decision I have ever made regarding my health for that I am forever grateful. I know I still have a long way to go with my complex condition but I have every faith you will manage my condition in the best possible way.

After my discharge I got a few phone calls from 9A to check how I was doing. The stoma nurses I deal with have been amazing, any time I've lifted the phone they have always helped me, thank you Deirdre, Carol and Liz. I also would like to say how great the ERAS program is although it doesn't seem all that great and very cruel at the time but certainly does help to recover faster. I have just had my first night out in ages but it was pain free and sickness free.

Keep up the great work everyone, you people are what make the great experience for patients.

Dear proud and happy

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion. I am so pleased to read about how well your surgery went at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, more so to read about how you felt about the way the staff cared for you and the impact that it had. Our aim is that all of our patients feel that way when they are in our care.

I will ensure that your kind words about the staff you have mentioned are shared with them. They will all be delighted to receive your feedback.

From what you have shared, your recovery is going well and I hope this continues.

Best wishes
Lisa
