"Visiting Lincoln A&E following self-inflicted knife-wound."

About: DHU Healthcare CIC / NHS 111 Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I suffer from Autism and Asperger's Syndrome and injured my arm (cross between a cut and stab) while attempting to open a cereal box with a 12-inch kitchen knife.

I rang the non-emergency number (111) and was informed that I should go to the A&E to have it checked - the advice was that, as I had no-one to drive me, I should arrange a taxi to drive my 1-year-old son and I to the hospital.

I walked there - taxis are beyond our budget.

Arrived at the hospital and waited 5 minutes while the receptionist chatted to other staff members before seeing to me.

Saw a triage nurse quite quickly but then had a wait of over 2 hours to see a healthcare adviser who cleaned the wound and put a steri-strip over it...

Almost wish I'd just put a plaster on it and gone about my daily business...

Dear SADL

I am sorry to hear that you experienced a delay on your recent visit to the A&E department.

At times of high inflow, unfortunately delays can occur despite the best effort to keep this to a minimum.

Thank you for sharing your observation regarding the reception team not acknowledging you on arrival, this is not acceptable and I will be sharing your concerns with the team.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, it is feedback, both positive and negative, which enables us to learn and develop as a team.

Regards

Karen Hansord
