"My son's welfare"

About: Gowanlea / General Psychiatry Gowrie Care Homeless Services

(as a service user),

My son who was brain damaged at birth from medical negligence has gone through life with all kinds of mental health problems as a result and has never been appropriately treated.  He is currently housed at Gowrie care for the homeless and is left to live in squaller presenting a fire hazard. He is constantly without food as no one helps from the mental health team seems to ensure that he has any and I have to provide it on a regular basis!

I see nothing done about this tragic situation from one week to another either by his mental health officer from Gowanlee or his social worker.  I feel it is their job to see to his welfare but I don't think they do.  A mentally ill person left without food and living in squaller is an absolute disgrace!

Thank you for highlighting your concerns via Care Opinion. I would urge you to contact the Community Mental Health Team concerned to discuss this. The team manager will be able to link with Gowrie Care and work with you to ensure your son’s needs are being addressed.
