Mum had medical and mental health problems during her stay. Staff were almost all kind and helpful and nearly always there was a very high standard of care. They were always willing to communicate and inform me of progress. I was able to be in Ipswich for only part of the time but they were always helpful when I telephoned. It was however frustrating when the phone was not picked up which could happen for quite long periods. The ability to leave a message and get a call back when staff were free would have been welcome
I am a retired pharmacist and observed all staff acting professionally except for one occasion when a nurse appeared to substitute one medicine for another without any authority. I stopped this dangerous Practice happening and reported it to the sister in charge. I didn't see that nurse again so perhaps she was an agency nurse who was not re-engaged.
Overall I was very impressed with the care of staff on Washbrook ward and would like to thank them
