Had first eye done at Barnsley and second at another NHS clinic.
Barnsley's waiting list for quite long (4 months - the other clinic saw me in just 3 weeks).
The nursing staff at Barnsley were warm, considerate and caring.
This stopped at the theatre door.
The surgeon did not greet me or reassure me - not one word of consideration throughout the 30 min op, and I might as well have been unconscious.
The theatre staff followed their lead.
The surgery was a bit rough, and left me bloodshot and shaken.
Such a contrast with my second eye at the other clinic - quick, gentle, and the surgeon spoke nicely to me.
At Barnsley some treatment was delivered in an open space - ie all the eye drops.
There's no privacy and it was undignified to be treated in this way.
The other clinic had new specially designed spaces - so much better, and all private.
Barnsley failed to give me some important Information about the surgery which had some very difficult consequences for me. This was due to poor patient care by the consultant. The other clinic automatically covered this issue (anisometropia).
I made a formal written complaint but have never had a response.
My treatment at Barnsley wasn't awful - but they need to learn some lessons about delivering better patient care.
My advice is to have a good look around at other NHS options in your area.
Not recommended.
