"Bad Post Natal Experience"

About: Liverpool Womens Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I experienced under staffing and lack of compassion/bedside manner at LWH. I feel that I was discharged far too early after not being taken serious with pain post birth. I was then misdiagnosed which led to a serious infection being identified a week post birth. I contracted sepsis as a result and feel that if more post natal care had been given to me then this wouldn't have happened. Constant late admistration of serious medication also ensued. Oh and they barely even looked at the baby post birth even though the next day my community midwife commented on how yellow /jaundice my baby was! I had an awful horrific experience. I really hope I don't have to go back to this hospital again. I think that something urgently needs to be done about post natal care and support for new mothers on that first day/night with the baby.

We are very sorry that you had such a poor experience after you had your baby. The Trust is working hard to listen to all concerns and improve the experience for all new mothers on the wards. We are currently focusing on post-natal care and working hard with the teams to ensure that we deliver the highest standard of care possible.

We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss this in more detail with you to explore your concerns fully and see what we can put in place to improve patient experience in the future. Please contact us if you would like to discuss further with our Maternity Matron and review your care in detail. To do this contact our PALS team on 0151 702 4353 or via email PALS@lwh.nhs.uk and they will arrange a convenient time for you both to discuss your concerns.
