I have Myeloma and get 3 weekly haemolglobulin therapy to help boost my immunity. Unfortunately I occasionally react badly to it with a meningitis type headache and vomiting. Yesterday I experienced these symptoms and saw my GP who wanted to phone an ambulance to take me to the Vale of Leven Medical Assessment Unit. I advised that I'd prefer to get a lift so my dad took me. From the moment I arrived my care was nothing short of exceptional. The nursing staff (of particular note, Margo) and Dr Shah were attentive, professional and caring. I was given Morphine which immediately started to make me feel better. Dr Shah genuinely seemed concerned and reassured me that they would look after me (this may seem like a minor point but I was on my own as my husband was at home looking after our 3 young children). After a few hours I felt well enough to return home.
I can't praise the staff enough. These symptoms are horrific when they occur but having been so well looked after, I'm very grateful and feel lucky to have you near-by.
Last November I had a dreadful experience in this same Unit. A manager was supposed to contact me but never did, however I'm delighted and reassured that this won't ever happen again based on yesterday's experience.
Thank you.
