"Recent visit to a relative on Pavillion ward"

About: Mill View Hospital

My cousin was admitted to Pavillion ward after being sectioned,I am really concerned regarding his safety as he has been punched in the eye by another resident, the staff appear to be in control but I need to ask myself why did this happen,I was disgusted by the general cleanliness of the ward, when I went to visit we were not given the privacy of a room but had to share with the other residents/patients in a communal area of which I was not comfortable with bearing in mind one had already physically assaulted my cousin,I am hoping that my cousin will be moved as soon as possible if he was to stay at Mill View for any length of time he will definitely be in danger.Would I recommend Mill View I don't know,it is a place where you can be fed and have a bath for those who can beat the system but for those that genuinely need the medical help I'm not sure

Dear Lorraine

I am sorry to hear about your experience and thank you for sharing these concerns through NHS Choices.

I am the Ward Manager for Pavilion PICU and am very sorry to read your concerns and how this has impacted for you and your cousin.

As this is a public forum, out of respect for the privacy of yourself and your cousin, I will not go into further details here, but I would like to meet to discuss your concerns fully if you would be willing to do that.

Please contact me via Pavilion PICU and I will be happy to arrange some time to meet with you so that we can talk about what has gone wrong.

As a general point I would assure you that at Pavilion PICU we take safety very seriously and record incidents that occur so that a proper investigation into the causes can be completed, and to ensure that we work to make things better and protect people from avoidable harm.

I do hope you will feel able to contact me or one of the Charge Nurses (Deputy Ward Managers), or our Matron, if I am not available when you call / visit.

Kind regards

Deon
