I was admitted to Hexham General Hospital on Friday 30th June at 0700. I was allocated a single room for my over-night stay in room No: 12 on Ward 3. My room had private facilities and a view of the outside world!
I was taken down to the theatre for my operation at 10.30 after having been visited by all of the staff involved in my operation (Surgeon, Anaethetist, Nurse Practitioner etc),
They were all so professional and reassuring that I did not feel worried or anxious in the slightest as I had total confidence in them. Following my operation and after a short period in recovery I returned to my room at 12.40.
The anaesthetic took a few hours to wear off and the feeling returned to my legs however, I had no pain.
Once back in my room I was monitored and observed on a very regular basis and brought tea and toast as I'd not had anything to eat or drink since the night before!
I was discharged the following evening as soon as the Nurses were happy with my readings (Blood pressure & temperature etc) and the physios had given me the all clear after assessing me walking with my sticks up and down a flight of stairs.
I cannot speak more highly of the staff at Hexham General Hospital, everyone that I came into contact with were so professional and caring it made my operation very bearable and not traumatic in the slightest.
If anyone is attending Hexham General Hospital for a similar operation please do not worry as you will be in very good caring hands.
