My husband recently had a knee replacement operation. On leaving hospital, he was told that he would be visited by a District Nurse. We were expecting a visit towards the end of week commencing but were not given a date or time. My husband had a long standing appointment for the eye clinic at Queen Mary's Hospital for which he had waited for a considerable amount of time. I drove him there - as he is on crutches he needed help getting out of the car and supervision in getting to the clinic as he is a little unstable on the crutches. A nurse had called while we were out.
One Saturday he received a phone call from the District Nurses office and was given what my husband described as "an interrogation" by the caller who'd wanted to know where he had been and how he had got there. He said they made him feel as though he was "pulling a fast one" and was some sort of benefit cheat. They told him he was not longer entitled to home visits as he was no longer housebound, even though he is unable to go out on his own and despite the fact that the hospital told us we would get these visits.
We now have to go to the GP surgery where parking is difficult. I have deterioration of my lower spine and referred pain in my leg which has got worse while I have been caring for my husband so this is one extra burden for me.
