"Choosing between fixing my teeth or my knee"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Orthodontics Medway Maritime Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I am totally upset, I was seen in clinic in June for dental outpatients, told I need 5 teeth out and that there was a 5 month wait, got referred from my dentist in November, in June see orthopaedic consultant, need operation on my left knee, today emailed orthopaedic secretary at medway maritime hospital, only to get an email back saying that because I am on a waiting list for my teeth that I can’t have my knee operation, so now I have to choose between my teeth and my knee, as to what operation I have to cancel, I am not very happy

Thank you for your comments which we have shared with our Coordinated Surgical Directorate.

We are sorry to learn that you require two surgeries of different types. When this is the case, a decision will always have to be made as to which one is done first.

If you would like to discuss this further please contact our PALS team (patient advice and liaison service) and they will be happy to assist you.

Kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team

Update posted by Rosanda (the patient)

Had email from PALS saying can’t be on 2 lists, so I have choose to have my knee done over my teeth. I just hope that when I’ve had my knee done that I will be put back on the waiting list for my teeth as I already waited 8months to get an appointment about my teeth
