"Excellent Care but!!!!!"

About: Bedford Hospital South Wing / Vascular surgery

I had the misfortune to be admitted here for vascular surgery in April and can I say first of all that the treatment I received from the nursing staff and the doctors was top rate but the ward itself was hell on earth for anyone staying for the first time.

Many of the other patients were suffering from other conditions than vascular and as a result sleep was very difficult and in fact the screams and shouts were very frightening. Their is no stimulation on the ward ,no tv, no radio ,and the wifi including the premium service does not allow enough bandwidth to stream any video, however if you are near a window you can get some 4g reception but it will cost you a fortune for all that data. The ward itself is gloomy and dilapidated and is very depressing. The standard of the food is pretty patchy some of it was excellent (the hot food)but some was very poor with some days only sandwiches available which were of very low quality. Also the tea and coffee were the poorest I have ever had.

The single worst thing though was the lack of dignity ,being unable to use the toilet I had to use the commode and even though the curtains were closed non medical staff would just pull the curtains open for whatever reason exposing you to the others including visitors.
