"Reception staff were courteous ..."

About: Ridgeway Hospital

What I liked

Reception staff were courteous and helpful on the telephone and in the reception area.

What could be improved

Moving and handling techniques by nurses and physio's

Infection control (Not changing gloves between procedures)

Instruction on post operative pain relief including the use of self administered analgesia by hand control.

More information on post operative care at home.ie amount of exercise to take following orthopeadic surgery, how much pain relief to take. Laxatives and how to manage the ted stockings.

Anything else?

My father returned home with a sacral pressure sore after only 6 days in hospital following major surgery. This was always considered to be a sign of poor nursing care!

The nursing staff on duty at the weekend appeared to avoid eye contact with visitors, and were not particularly helpful when asked a question about a relative in their care.
