"I just wish I could get some answers as to what is wrong with me."

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cardiology / Coronary Care Unit Turriff Hospital

(as a service user),

I have been waiting for 9 months to get fitted with an event monitor from my local hospital. I seen cardiac consultant in January and they ordered an angiogram.

I had this and it was apparently clear although no follow up with consultant about it. It is suspected I have a condition called Prinzmetal Angina which does not need bad arteries to get symptoms. I had an episode in 2016 which paramedics said looked like a MI. I did have a heart enzyme rise but I feel nobody seems to be taking me very seriously.

I am currently experiencing fast heart rate nearly every morning at present and have had multiple ambulance rides through to ARI with it. My consultant has said to GP they do not wish to see me again until after I get the event monitor results.

I have checked where I am on the list and it looks like another 5 months to wait for it. That will be a total of 14 months since it was ordered for me. I am finding this very upsetting as it has made a huge impact on my quality of life. I just wish I could get some answers as to what is wrong with me.

Dear clootiedumpling,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and your concerns regarding your wait to get your monitor fitted.

Given that you are still experiencing symptoms of a fast heart rate, I have shared your concerns with the manager of the cardiac services and would encourage you to contact the Support Manager on 01224 550910 who can discuss with you directly your concerns & provide more information for you.

With kind regards

Fiona Robertson Chief Nurse
