"The nurses and doctors were very ..."

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

What I liked

The nurses and doctors were very apologetic about the extremely long time patients were kept waiting to be seen by the doctors.

No complaints regarding the medical care I received.

What could be improved

Patients should be given an approximate time of how long they will be expected to wait before seeing their doctor.

My appointment time was given at 3.30pm on 13th July 2010 I was eventually seen by the doctor about 7.30pm and left about 8pm.

A number of patients who had 2pm appointments were not seen before 7pm. It should be remembered that some eye patients are old and maybe have a long distance to travel home.

Patients who have been given appointments 6 months in advance have booked their transport home and do not expect waiting times of 5 hours or more.

Anything else?

I am profoundly deaf and the hospital provided a sign language interpreter for me.

The receptionist and nurses were aware that the interpreter had arrived at 3pm but we were left to second last to be seen.

Why was no-one bothered about how much money was been spent on keeping the interpreter sitting around pointlessly for hours.

Please note I would not recommend the eye hspital to anyone.
