"Disgraceful appointment at gynaecology..."

About: St Helier Hospital / Gynaecology

Just came back from my outpatient gynaecology appointment. I feel it was a total waste of time ! I had waited for 3 months since the referral from my GP. I was diagnosed with fibroids a few years ago , recently suffered 2 haemorrhages and almost ended up in the hospital due to the heavy loss of blood . While waiting for my St Healier appt I decided to see a gynaecologist privately , had an ultrasound done which confirmed that one of the fibroids got bigger and has 5cm now , there is also a suspected polyp which can only be confirmed and removed during hysteroscopy.

I took the recent ultrasound report as well as the pictures from the scan with me to my hospital appointment.

The registrar seemed to completely ignored the results and almost straight away mentioned Mirena coil . I said I do not want to have a coil fitted I want a proper diagnosis and the underlying condition treated not just masking the symptoms with hormones. Then I was told that I need another ultrasound done by the hospital . Also, prior to the examination the doctor put the clean pair of gloves they later wore on the bin lid ! Surely against all standards of cross infection control!

No hysteroscopy was arranged, I got a Mirena coil leaflet instead . Now I am meant to wait for the ultrasound for another 3 months ! Plus an additional month for a follow up appointment! I find it absolutely disgraceful! It is not only a waste of time and mone for me but also a waste of The NHS resources and is potentially putting my health in danger !

I am going to log an official complaint as I believe it is below any acceptable standards and against duty of care !

Also the staff should have additional training in cross infection control before someone ends up with a serious hospital acquired infection.
