"Only one working lift, but care was excellent"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / General Medicine (Wards 3, 4, 5 &46)

(as a relative),

My husband has recently been discharged from Ward 9. The care was excellent and staff were a credit to the nursing profession. Open visiting was a life saver for us.

What could have been better was access to the lifts. I was fortunate I could use the stairs but with only one lift working in the medical block I witnessed lots of people waiting a long time for an available lift. This included patient transfers, stores, relatives and in fact a disabled visitor being asked to get out to allow an empty trolley to get. Not particularly person centred!

Dear Zaza

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion.

I am glad to read that your husband’s care was excellent and that the staff were a credit to the nursing profession. I will make sure that we share your feedback with them.

I have shared your post with my colleagues in Facilities so that they can respond to your concerns about the lifts in the Medical Block.

I hope your husband is recovering well and please pass on my best wishes.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Zaza

Thanks for your post on Care Opinion.

Unfortunately the repairs to the lift in the Medical block will involve extensive testing and may need specialist parts which has resulted in this lift been out of service for longer than normal.

Please be assured that the company who are under contract to the NHS GG&C for lift maintenance, under our direction, are making every effort to have this issue resolved at the earliest possible time.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused to our patients, their families and visitors.

Kind Regards

Rosie Cherry, Site Facilities Manager, Glasgow Royal Infirmary
