"The administrative system between ..."

About: Watford General Hospital

What could be improved

The administrative system between the outpatient reception and the actual outpatient waiting area. When I arrived at reception, everything was fine. I was given my requisite documents etc and told to proceed to Outpatients Waiting Area C. I was not told to do anything with my Outpatients form, simply to wait in that area until my name was called. Obviously this was incorrect: I had to place my documents in a tray on a desk in the Waiting Area to confirm my arrival. So I sat for over an hour without once seeing or observing any signs requiring me to do this: it was only once a kind patient told me that I had to give in my form that I realised my catastrophic error. I finally was seen by my consultant who was clearly annoyed that I had wasted time; after speaking with her she still didn't quite understand my problem, telling me that 'there are signs everywhere' giving instructions for the Outpatients sheet. After a brief appointment I left, searching for these signs: the only ones I could see were tacked onto the front of the desks within each bay. Please make it clear as to what patients must do in order to be seen: no-one wants to be in there longer than necessary. And also, while I recognise my mistake and its ramifications, I do not expect to be treated contemptuously by people who appear to be strangely separate and uninterested in the patient experience.
