I started attending the Children's center after the birth of my son in 2013. I was a first time mum who had to give up work for my son. The sessions I attended for babies, then toddlers including song times, stories, parties and holiday time events have been marvelous for our family, as well as the health visitor clinic. Now my son is older it is coming to the end of the time frame where I would attend the centre as a parent- but you've done so much more for me than this.
I attended some adult learning sessions in the centre and became one of your volunteers. The volunteer work has been a really important thing for me- it has supplemented my parenting skills, given me focus, as well as vital links to other parents when I have craved other adult conversation. I have gained knowledge in new areas that I never thought were open to me and I have gained confidence.
Throughout my volunteering the staff have mentored and coached me and I am so grateful for the work they have done with me.
Recently I have been inspired to apply for a job in the area of work I have been doing as a volunteer. I never would have felt able to try and apply had I not gone through this journey with the Children's Centre.
I have no idea whether my job application will go anywhere yet- but urge any parents thinking of volunteering to go for it because of the way doing it will add to your life experiences. I will continue to volunteer while I can give my time and hope your staff know how much I relish my time with them.
"So grateful for the work they have done with me"
