"Canteen in monklands"

About: University Hospital Monklands

(as a service user),

I was in the canteen yesterday morning! I was informed I had to pay for a double portion of mushrooms because I had taken 6 instead of 5! ! If the canteen is going to have such strict rules on portion control why is there not a member of staff serving the food? ? I have used both wishaw and hairmyres canteen, there is a stark difference in the standard and price of food! Why is this?

I also attended monklands on a bank holiday to be informed that the canteen closed at 11am! ! I asked management how do the make sure the your staff have access to food? ? And a sandwich from a machine does not count as food!

The nurses, doctors and porters are working long hard shifts and should have access to hot food! ! I feel as a patient that the basic need of our hardworking front like staff should be met, and the management at monklands should be making this a priority for there what matters to me campaign! ! Your staff should matter to u! Without them your hospital wouldn't run!

Dear Airdrie patient

Thank you for taking the time to post comments relating to the catering facilities at Monklands Hospital. I was sorry to read of your dissatisfaction.

I can advise that our pricing structure is based on agreed standard portion sizes. As the breakfast service is self-service there is a sample of the standard portion displayed on the counter, anyone electing to have more than the standard portion would be informed and the appropriate charge made. The pricing structure operated at Hairmyres and Wishaw will be in line with their specific services.

The availability of food to staff on bank holidays, after 11am, is provided through vending machines in the dining room which offer a range of hot and cold food. There is also an option to purchase food from the retail outlet and RVS coffee shop located in the main entrance.

We do undertake customer surveys in the dining room and to date there has been no issues raised regarding the cost, quality or portion size of the food offered or the availability of hot food on bank holidays.

Please be assured that the hard work by all staff at Monklands in ensuring patients receive appropriate treatment and care is appreciated and recognised.

Regards

William
