"Neuro Rehabilitation ward feedback"

About: The James Cook University Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

I'm writing this review because I am very angry and disappointed with Ward 26 Neuro Rehabilitation at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and think I should let people know my relatives experience in that ward was far from positive.

My relative had been in hospital with a bleed on the brain and went into ICU which was amazing followed by Ward 24 Neurosurgical and the care in there was the greatest - then my relatives final Ward was Ward 26 Neuro Rehabilitation.

My relative went down there and we all had high hopes and we as a family was positive because this Ward was meant to be the best and the nurses were meant to know about brain injury. How wrong were we, the first few weeks in there were okay but then two months down the line standards of care began to slip and I'm sorry but in my opinion the nurses didn't have a clue on how to care for my relative.

My relative can not do a thing so needs care for example his brain injury has left him with bad hallucinations and he shouts out but the nurses didn't comfort him, they left him.  Also simple things like asking him if he needed the toilet because he needs help they didn't do that and a few times he had an accident and the nurses would make poor excuses.

The communication was far from great. We didn't get daily updates about our relative and  only find out which nurse was caring for him when they came in to give medication.

Also I felt when asking the nurses questions they seemed to have attitude when answering what I ask, I also witnessed in the side rooms with infection control was poor. You were meant to wear aprons and I saw nurses go in on numerous occasions without aprons. My relative didn't receive the Physio he deserved and he didn't receive the Ocupational therapy he deserved.

I'm sorry to say this but I think Ward 26 Neuro let my relative down, The nurses in my eyes diden't know how to look after my relative. The health care assistance didn't care for my relative as well only two were okay caring for him. Hygiene is a big thing in hospital and from my experiences Ward 26 lacked basic cleanliness I found urine soaked paper towels on the floor, I feel let down and upset my relative was not treated with dignity and respect.

He was discharged I think wrong the nurses kept it quiet until a day before then they got it wrong because of infection control because of ambulance regulations.

After this I would recommend James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough to everyone as a great hospital but Ward 26 Neuro Rehabilitation provided fare from great care. The nurses we saw needed to be more professional and needed to give more care to my relative and family.

I was in there as a relative and observed everything and was not impressed. A rule is they keep the beds open for your relative for a few days after discharge they didn't keep my relative's bed open because I found out. what had happened if my relative needed to go back in there?

I want something done so this doesn't happen to other patients. I hate complaining but I want change. can I get answers please, my relatives experience was great in hospital until he got to Ward 26 and it went downhill.  I'm not happy. hopefully this review will help other people who are going to be going on Ward 26 Neuro Rehabilition, thank you for reading hopefully I will get some feedback.

Thank you for the reply South Tees NHS Foundation trust although my relatives experience was far from great and a let down and distressing at times in Ward 26. I think I was a bit harsh with my wording so I won't be taking it any further. James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough is an amazing Hospital with amazing doctors and nurses and I won't let a bad experience in one Ward that my relative had change my views of James Cook University Hospital because this Hospital is the best.
