What I liked
the receptonists at the main entrance had smiles on their faces... and were happy to help. the cashier in the out patient refreshment area is lovely!!
What could be improved
well... i was visiting my nan at this hospital and as i work for the NHS i was less than impressed. although when i asked at reception where the ward was... they were more than happy to help. when i got to the ward - after a near anough 10 minute walk - i was "greeted" by a blood stained floor just outside the wards entrance doors. thats nothing compared to what i witnessed in this ward. i was visiting my nan for the last hour that was allowed and while sitting in the boiling ward a poor elderly woman was crying for a nurse... i appreciate that nurses are very busy as they were all with other patients but i was upset by what happened after.. the woman was naked and got up - still attached to her drip - and attempted to walk across the ward. all she wanted was a glass of water! she has soiled herself and the ward floor... my nan had called for help for her but none of the nurses heard her - or just werent listening! in the end it was us visitors that helped her back into her bed and got her the water she needed! i have great faith in the NHS but this hospital - or this ward in particular really needs to sort its nurses out. the following day when i visited my nan - the blood stain was still on the floor outside the entrance to the ward... but she had said to me her hand was causing her pain. the next thing i know.. i look at her hand and the needle they were using to give her fluids was literally looking like it was going to pierce its way out of her skin! her not being one to moan was just prepared to wait for them to change it for her. i was heartbroken for some of the women in this ward. the thing that made it a whole lot worse was the fact that i then found out that ward normally holds women with cancer! Cancer? my nan had blood poisoning not cancer! which caused even more upset for the family as all of us thought there was something going on that none of us knew about. maybe that had something to do with capacity im not sure.
but hey... after 5 days in MKGH.. my nan is doing well and obviously recieved the correct care that she needed. it wasnt the best organised but at least i can thank the hospital for keeping her relatively well!
the rest of the hospital in my experience however - particularly ward 5 - brilliant staff! cannot fault any of you!
