"It didn't feel that family was valued"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

My husband was discharged from Monklands this afternoon. He was to be given medication but this was not available as the pharmacy was closed and staff seemed unable to source what was needed Now my daughter will have to go down tomorrow after work to collect these I feel that this this is not acceptable.

On discharge from AMRU we are still no further forward as to why he was admitted.

No one was able to give us any answers. I feel the member of staff I spoke with was reluctant to answer my questions.

According to the notices outside the ward family members are a valuable part of the healthcare team, but this did not seem obvious to me.

Dear Karmic

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience on Care Opinion. I am sorry to hear that you feel that your husband has been discharged and that you are unsure of the reason for his admission. I will ensure that I discuss this with staff to ensure that patients are fully aware of the reason for admission, treatment provided and follow up if required. Medication is provided on discharge if available, if this is not possible family members may be asked to return the next day. If this is inconvenient please accept my apologies. I am sorry to hear that you do not feel valued as a family as our aim is to value patients and their family to work with them to provide patient centred care.

Kind regards

Morag

Dear Karmic,

Thank you for taking the time to post your Care Opinion. I was sorry to read of your husband and family's recent experience at Monklands Hospital.

Learning from patient experience is very important to us and I would be grateful for the opportunity to investigate this further on your husband's behalf. If he would be happy for me to do this please contact myself on 01236 713065.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Melanie
