"They TRULY are my heroes"

About: Beacon Lodge Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health (inpatient)

(as a service user),

I was referred and accepted into Beacon Lodge after going through a terrible experience of being sectioned under the mental health act. They TRULY are my heroes. The staff at this place couldn't be nicer people who really do have your best interests at heart and LISTEN to YOU and YOUR STORY the way YOU tell it.

They get versions from everyone else, obviously, but they ultimately listen to you which is something that not even the mental health professionals do. They have managed to build this incredible place that really feels just like home...and for someone in the position of being homeless, that is important.

They make every effort to engage you into activities and to push you gently into finding yourself again so that you can learn how to enjoy life the way you want to do it. A tremendous undertaking that they have managed to accept and expand on.

I'm going to really miss this place when I go, but I look forward to possibly volunteering with them in the future because a place like this needs all the help they can get so that they can keep doing their incredible work!

Sorry for my delay in replying to your extremely positive post. I am so pleased to hear that Beacon Lodge has supported you to take the next steps in your recovery and their approach has allowed you to make sense of your experiences with mental health services. I do hope that you will continue with your plan to consider a volunteering role as it sounds as though you have a great deal to offer in terms of inspiring hope and self-belief within others who have had similar experiences to yourself. Wishing you all the very best in your continued journey

Thank you for your feedback. It is great to hear that you had such a positive experience when you stayed at Beacon Lodge. The service is looking to recruit volunteers who can help support the team and the people who use our service to continue to develop the work we do. It would be great to have you on board as a volunteer and continue your recovery journey to inspire others.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen. I would love to volunteer there, but it's probably not for the best considering how I ended up having to leave that place. Honestly, I felt really great the day I wrote my first story of my experience and that feeling still stays with me. However, it is now unfortunately overshadowed by the horrendous way in which I was made to leave.
