My experience of visiting the SAU dept at Lister hospital was horrible. After a long stressful day we were eventually told to arrive between 6pm and 6.30pm. 3 hours later we were still waiting for my father to be transferred to a ward. There was no communication from the department staff. When it was approaching a 4 hour wait we again, had to ask a number of questions only to receive a cold and hostile response from the staff and plain ignorance answers of 'we don't know'.
The staff were not listening to the questions we were clearly asking, were interrupting everytime we spoke. The porter who eventually came to take my father to a ward had more answers to provide us than the hospital staff themselves.
Ironically there're is a sign in the waitin room area stating they will not tolerate abuse - which begs the thought of 'no wonder' as I can only assume this was not the first time they had unsatisfied patients.
Whilst it is easy to consider our family member was not the only patient of the hospital, a 4 hour wait with no comms is not acceptable, regardless of the fact it was a weekend. The staff, as already stated, were rude, hostile and not at all helpful and were not able to give a concrete answer to simple questions.
The whole admissions process was extremely stressful and hopefully we will never have to experience this treatment again
"SAU - unsatisfactory"
