"Stay at Haven House was relaxing"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult Mental Health Services - Community (County)

(as the patient),

The stay was relaxing and no pressure to anything if you didn't want to. Rooms were clean and homely. Clean linen and towels available.

Variety of different activities to do, but unfortunately due to the different rota times staff it seemed like there was not enough turn around time before the next shift, I work shifts and you need an eleven hour turn around time, so this would leave them tired and unable to do their jobs effectively. Which in turn effects the residents in their care. also the amount of paperwork they seem to have to complete prevents them to care for the residents. It is not their fault because the staff regardless how tired or bogged down with paperwork still stayed professional! Oh and the word exit plan should be changed to something like next chapter, journey etc exit seems too final.....

The area downstairs is nice comforting and relaxing but if you needed quiet time to chill and maybe read, colour etc.. there is no where only the conservatory but this is used to accommodate crisis team with residents and staff to welcome new residents. So this can interrupt your quiet time, then the only place for quiet is your room. For me that is quite isolating! !

Staff could do with an appropriate office with a separate sleeping area not within the office. You can't run an office whilst someone is asleep it can cause disturbed sleep for the employee, again this would have an effect of their health and ability to do their work effectively.

If agency staff are employed I feel that they should have some experience in mental health and communicate with us, we are not scary just have different needs with our mental health.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback. I do agree, the building does have it's limitations in terms of meeting/private space. I have purchased a room divider to create a separate space in the communal area. Currently this space is not well utilised, so we hope this will add some further options for guests.

With regards to the paperwork and shift patterns. We have spent a lot of time as a team working on a rota that staff feel comfortable with and we have reduced the paperwork to ensure we record what is legally required. Often staff are in the office doing other things, such as taking referrals, having meetings and making phone calls.

The service can take referrals 24 hours a day. Therefore, the sleep in staff are on shift to be part of the referral process and can be woken at night to do this. If a worker has had a wakeful night and feels tired the next day we will relieve them from shift as appropriate.

I know we discussed the word Exit when you stayed with us at Haven House. The actual paperwork is called a Leaving Plan. However, I think staff call it an exit meeting as shorthand. We will as a team reflect on the impact that this word has on guests who are already anxious about the ending. We will begin speaking to other guests too, about ideas they have for naming the final one to one meeting.

As a service we are trying to minimise the number of Agency staff that we use. On the occasions that we do use Agency, we request staff who we know worked well in the service. It is often when there is emergency cover that our choice becomes limited.

I hope this goes some way to answer some of your questions and concerns.

Thank you again for your feedback. We hope you are doing well following your stay with us.
