"Being a Catholic in Hospital"

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Church Ward - Men's Mental Health Pathway

I find getting to the chapel hard sometimes because of staffing levels, however we are able to go on a Friday for coffee morning or on a Sunday morning for the service. I used to be able to go to the Catholic Mass on a Wednesday morning but now it clashes with my sessions so I can't.

I use the patient phone box to get hold of chaplains and they reply to them saying they will come and visit when they are free. The Catholic chaplain does come and see me which I'm happy with.

Most of my family are Catholic and being religious means I know that I'm looked after. I'm having a cross tattooed on my arm which I see as a form of worship. Whenever I'm in the chapel, I also light a candle to remember people and also to give my sins to God.

I think that the things the chaplains do are good such as the music & coffee morning.

Thank you very much for your message. We will try our utmost to get you to the chapel and will fully support you with this. I have copied in your Nurse Manager to this for him to look at staffing to get you to the Chapel
