"Wait 1 month for an appointment!"

About: NHS Lothian

(as a service user),

Am visiting Scotland on holiday. Had a minor foot problem which was impeding walking. Contacted the Victoria Practice in Leith and was told the earliest appointment they had was over a month away! What am I supposed to do until then? Hop?

Dear Hopalong Leith

Thank you for your feedback and I am very sorry to read about your foot problem and the difficulties in getting an appointment at the surgery. I would suggest you to contact the practice again as it may be that they could arrange for you to see another member of the primary healthcare team sooner or you could also perhaps get advice from your community pharmacy.

I do hope you are feeling better.

Kind regards

Jeannette

Update posted by Hopalong Leith (a service user)

Much though I appreciate your response Jeanette, I'm now a week further down the line and you want me to call back again?? And even then, not to get a GP appointment? Do you really think that's appropriate?

The reason I contacted the surgery was that I had already exhausted all other options elsewhere and the situation was getting worse. Luckily I've found a private GP. No wonder people end up in A&E for trivial problems. I'm almost finished my holiday here. I haven't been able to get around as I'd hoped. So I'm heading back down to England where I can at least see a GP without having to wait a week, never mind a month!.
