"The worst hospital going"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / General surgery

I was sent to the surgical assessment unit after being referred urgently from my GP. On the first day I was there for about 8 hours just waiting. Baring in mind they thought I had appendicitis nobody once came out to check on me in the 8 hours of waiting. They was over run and there was so many people waiting there was a line out the door. I finally got called in about 9 o'clock that night and was told that they thought I has a appendicitis but had no beds available so they would give me some pain killers and asked me to come back at 08:00 the next morning to have a scan. I then spent a further 20 minutes waiting while two of the nurses stood there and argued with each other about how many paracetamol they was going to give me! I then returned at 08:00 the following morning like they said, checked in and went back into the waiting room (which is the smallest room I've ever seen) it got to 11:00am and still nobody had seen me. So I chased them up and they told me that they had forgot I was there and hadn't done the scan paper work, printed me some stuff off and sent me down to the USS department. They failed to tell them I was coming down so I had to sit there for another hour and a half. The poor member of staff who did the scan actually did it in their break for me! They said the results would be ready in a maximum of 20 minutes, went back to SAU and waited another 3 hours and was then told they had forgotten to look at the results! Again I was called in finally at a late hour to say my appendix didn't show on the scan, they had no beds again and to come back in the morning again! I cannot begin to tell you the pain I was in! They told me I couldn't eat anything after a certain time so I sat there all in all for 19 hours with no food or drink! I returned again the following morning again waiting for hours. 5 different people came out to do the same blood test for me! No communication whatsoever.

They then sent me to another department who had no idea why they sent me there and told me to go back. Finally after I made a complaint someone came out to me and called me into a side room, door wide open so everyone could hear, told me they didn't know what the problem was they couldn't see anything and told me to go home, and if pain persisted to go to A&E. absolutely disgraceful. I ended up going private and getting the treatment elsewhere. Never have I experienced so little care and such disgusting treatment before in my life. Medway hospital is absolutely shocking and should be put back into special measures!!!!
