"Reflecting on what could have been diffferent"

About: Dirrans Centre (including rehab)

(as a service user),

I am a massive fan of the Dirrans football team, it has improved my physical health, my mental health and help me make friends. I love attending training it is the highlight of my week. My first review had focused on the Dirrans handling of the event. I admit I was like a kid the night before and managed to enjoy the day thanks to the Dirrans staff.

However having had time to reflect on the football tournament held be Scottish disability sports/Scottish Football Association at Glasgow. I still find myself still angry, annoyed and feel cheated. This may be due to my mental health problems, my stubbornness or my inability to let things go. I do feel this tournament has had a negative impact on me personally. Having retrospective discussion with staff involved I believe the decision not to put in a official complaint instead emailing the organisers highlights concerns is the incorrect decision.

I full understand the organisation of the tournament is not the Dirrans responsibility. But I feel the Dirrans should not waste resources on attending this event in the future due it’s organisation. I believe their should be more effort arranging games or seeking out other tournaments. The ideal solution would be to find different tournament meeting our criteria/ability or even arrange more friendly games of teams of equal standard.

Dear Michael Juggernaut,

I am sorry you still feel upset and angry about the football tournament organised by the Scottish Football Association.

As you know, Stephen the Dirrans coach, spoke to the SFA representatives on the day of the tournament and discussed the problems identified. The SFA agreed to look into these problems and will hopefully now improve the experience for everyone.

We are always looking for opportunities for the football team to gain experience and play against other teams. Dynamo Dirrans is a relatively new football team and every game provides new experiences and challenges. We identified and discussed with the team the difficulties found during this tournament and it was agreed that a formal complaint was not required.

I am concerned that attending the tournament has had a negative impact on you and hope you will discuss your feelings with staff at the Dirrans Centre. As always, we are here to support you with difficulties like this and to help find a way forward.

Thank you for keeping us informed of your concerns.

Kind regards

Nanette

As far as I understand, a representative of the SFA said that they were not in attendance and Scottish Disability Sport was in charge of the event.

I stand by my views that the event was a shambles. It still leaves me feeling deeply angry and upset. I think the reason others have not raised the ill feeing towards the event is because it is like Christmas once a year!

It is a true shame that the Scottish Football Association do not take more interest in disabled football.

As with the wishes of the Dirrans I will take this matter no further and will leave it in the hands of the Dirrans.
