"Coalville Hospital was clean, ..."

About: Coalville Community Hospital

What I liked

Coalville Hospital was clean, friendly, well-appointed and, most importantly, had excellent staff all with a very caring, and helpful, attitude. From what I saw, I have nothing but praise for the treatment of patients, the professional yet friendly attitude of the staff and the environment of the hospital.

What could be improved

Nothing of any significance.

Anything else?

My mum was admitted to Coalville Hospital after a fall and consequent hypothermia at home. After a few days treatment and testing etc. at Leicester General, she opted to go to Coalville for rehabilitation. During the three weeks that followed the physiotherapy was excellent and she progressed quickly and securely. Although I suspect she might have been sent home from some hospitals earlier, the extra time at Coalville was crucial because under supervision her confidence built up and she gained strength. So on return to home she was able to cope with most situations immediately. The Occupational Therapy work was efficiently completed, very thorough and very thoughtful, and liaison with Council services was very good indeed. Happily, she is now restored in her house, coping with everything, and ready to take on some activity outside her home.

This has been a success story both for her and the Hospital - and I can only thank the staff very sincerely for their excellent work and their wonderful attitude to their patients.

When I first visited Coalville Hospital I thought it was almost new - and was surprised to find out that it was built some time ago - surely a tribute to the care and maintenance of the site. Car parks are just large enough, and free (so I was happy to give a voluntary donation to hospital funds). It has some of the most interesting 'walls' (photographs and artwork) I've ever seen in a hospital - and it would be wrong to underestimate how much the patients appreciate the efforts made to make the internal environmental interesting and stimulating. The 'patient phone' (takes incoming calls and can quickly be handed over to a patient) is invaluable for close relatives living some Counties away who want to keep in regular contact.

Hospitals can be scary places, especially for the elderly, but there are a lot of thoughtful ideas operating in Coalville Hospital - and I would like to express my appreciation for all those my mum (and I) experienced.
