"I would highly recommend Queen ..."

About: Queen Charlotte's Hospital

What I liked

I would highly recommend Queen Charlotte's. I had exceptional ante and post natal care there. I was diagnosed with Obstetric colostasis (liver condition where baby is induced before 38 weeks to prevent complications) which meant I had to attend the hospital for check ups and monitoring v frequently. I had fantastic care throughout this v emotional ordeal from the doctors to the midwives to support staff. I ended up having to be induced and needed an emergency C section. Throughout this process I was supported hugely both physically and emotionally by all the hospital staff from the surgeons to midwives, with the dr's even holding my hand whilst I needed internals. Everyone went above and beyond their duty. My baby was born at 37 weeks at a great weight and is v healthy. This was due to the dr's acting very quickly when he was distressed in my induction and must be credited for making the decisions in the best interests of myself and my baby-whilst always explaining clearly the need for certain procedures.I would whole heartedly recommend this hospital. The nhs care was incredible and not only does it not even feel like a hospital-I would say more a hotel, (no hospital smell for instance) and nicely decorated etc- but the standard of doctors and consultants is unrivalled. For example the leading authority in the condition I had is attached to the hospital.

For my after care I stayed at the private Sir Stanley Clayton ward, although all ante natal and birth was nhs. The reason for this was finding me a bed after the C section was taking a long time and my husband was anxious to get me settled after major surgery. The care I received with the midwives privately was also superb. The care and attention was amazing, spending a long time assisting with breastfeeding and bathing the newborn and offering me support and advice that proved invaluable, allowing me to settle into my role as Mum easily when I went home.

What could be improved

I do feel the reception staff need better training as often these let the professionalism of the rest of the staff down as they were often curt and rude but otherwise what an incredible hospital. The waiting times are lengthy but you are told that these will take up to 3 hrs for ante natal appointments but it is worth it for the care and standard of hospital staff you will receive.

Anything else?
