"Gynaecology Oncology-Emergency Appointment..."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology

Appoinmtment arrived on Sat 8th for 11th April (9 days post GP referral) & the letter said to contact the dept if I hadn't received an appointment within 4 days of seeing the GP, which was useless information as this time had already passed & that information was on the appointment letter. No Postal Code for Sat-Nav. I had extremely worrying symptoms that my GP said be a sign of cancer, so needed tests to rule out anything sinister. I arrived early & as a couple of patients were late, was grateful to be taken in within a couple of minutes. it went downhill from there - staff member was cold, unsmiling, unfriendly which didn't put me at ease & I was given the impression that I was getting in the way of the staff member wanting to be elsewhere. My health history was taken down & later ignored. I should have had an ultrasound scan amongst other tests, but told it couldn't be done because it was an emergency clinic (thought that was the whole idea to get all the tests done). But now, I have to have the scan done at the same time as the pre-op appointment. One of the 2 staff didn't give me all the information I needed. Information I did get was mostly wrong. I have a neurological condition that means I feel pain about 100 times more powerful than someone without the condition, which I informed the staff member about & asked if the procedure for tests would be painful & told no - not true. They have booked me in for pre-op, then surgery in a few days without telling me why. Told my GP what happened (which I can't go into here) & have requested to be transferred to another hospital for the surgery. even though I don't know test results, what op, if it's a day case or staying in. GP worried about me being taken in so quickly. Can't get any info despite spending about 7 hrs yesterday either ringing or waiting for people to ring me back & being passed from pillar to post between about 7 staff members & being transferred back to each one at least twice & getting nowhere. Someone promised to ring about 3pm & I'm still waiting. GP can't refer me elsewhere until a letter is sent to her from the LRI & can't get letter. Told op will be at the General, but I've been booked into LRI & I'm terrified. In the end I ended up ringing Pals in floods of tears & a lovely sympathetic person is passing on what's happened to the Women's Dept to investigate further as a matter of urgency.
