"I had a knee replacement in mid ..."

About: Spire Cheshire Hospital

Anything else?

I had a knee replacement in mid November '09 at Spire, Stretton as an NHS patient and am now recovering.

This is a well run hospital, with professional, capable staff at all levels. I was always treated politely and considerately. I never felt that a request was too much trouble, or unexpected. I would particularly mention the most welcome prompt appearance of helpful staff whenever I rang in the middle of the night when in pain or merely the discomfort caused by bedclothes drenched in sweat. My needs were always met sympathetically and a cup of tea at 4am never too much trouble.

The staff are busy, but not harassed by a lack of sufficient numbers to do the job. There were complaints of overwhelming paper work, but their good record keeping is essential. The meals were better than I had expected and served with a smile. A morning paper was given freely.

My only concern was that it took some time for staff to sympathetically respond to my reluctance to take the recommended level of painkillers and anti-inflammatory tablets due to their effect on my irritable bowl syndrome.

I was discharged with copious instructions, medicines and good wishes.

I have a long way to go to recovery yet, but am pleased with my level of care and would recommend this hospital to others.
