"Five night stay on Barnes ward"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital / Urology

I was admitted to Barnes ward from EMU, feeling very ill. From the moment i was given a bed in the EMU to my stay on Barnes ward, the care and service I received was second to none, from nursing staff and doctors alike.I felt i could not have been in better hands.

The only downside to my stay was a young patient using her TV without earphones. When you are feeling ill you don't want to be forced to hear other people's choice of music or TV programmes. This patient took offence when we asked the nurse to switch her TV off as it was facing the wall and she wasn't watching it. It would be much better if patients were told that they must use earphones if they want the TV on.

Apart from this, my stay was faultless and i cannot praise the staff enough for their care and hard work.

Thank you for your lovely comments about your stay and the teams on EMU and Barnes Ward.

I will share them with staff and I’m sure they’ll be pleased to know how well cared for you felt.

I understand that noise from other people’s televisions and music can be an unpleasant distraction when you feel ill and I know that staff do ask patients to be thoughtful about everyone in the bay.

Most people are considerate and I’m sorry that in this case someone wasn’t perhaps as considerate as they could have been.

I hope you’re continuing to make a good recovery a t home.

Kind regards Sarah Turner-Saint head of communications
