From what I experienced at Kings College I assume it is a lot more probable to come across a nurse without basic human compassion than one compassionate. In my care they failed to treat me with dignity and respect, and did not take into account my wishes. Another time to avoid distress I did not answer nurse's questions. She was ready to send me out the door. Another time one failed to listen to my concerns saying they know better I do not need more care. Yet another time they ignored me, sort of pretended I am not there. I felt that they had no concern for my wellbeing and good. In my experience they do not know what is compassion.
Further the Trust proved in my view to be dishonest in its complaints procedures. They seemed to be willing to go out of their way to protect its staff and interests. I read in their note how good the staff had been towards me. There was no failings whatsoever according to them. According to my medical records. Obviously what is in my health record is the staff's biased side of the story. As a patients presumably I feel I have no credibility. For as long as there is this culture of secrecy and lack of openness I feel that nothing is going to change for better in the NHS.
I feel that patients have no real voice. Their complaints are being dismissed and ignored. I think that there is strong censorship on the internet also. That supports the culture of secrecy. Ony the good image of nursing and NHS being allowed to enter public discourse. Real image of NHS nursing is nowhere to be found in the internet. To every statement I write there must be added qualifier as it is so and so I n m y o p I n I o n nurses failed to treat me with dignity and respect. While I was lying down on the floor asking for help. For a trolley to lie down on. Not one came to my rescue. They said unless I get up they are gojng to call security. One senior nurse said-if you wanted to sleep you should have stayed home. This is just one instance of the poor treatement I received. It is my opinion nurses lack compassion for the most part. But again King's college not in 100 years is going to admit to its failings. As patients we have such small voice and no power to fight the NHS's wrongs.
I feel deeply sorry for all the more vulnerable people that I feel suffer from the negligence of nursing staff. They are helpless. This culture of fake out-of-reality image of nursing and the NHS needs to end. This culture of censorship needs to end.
