"Outpatient children's heart clinic"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Cardiology

Appointment came through giving us a weeks notice and my daughter was unable to attend as she was on a school trip which had been planned for a year. I rang to request an alternative appointment and was told that I would have to wait for a letter to come through as they didn't know when the next clinic was. After making several phone calls and not being able to resolve my problem, I decided to ring Birmingham Children's Hospital.

I was told that Russell Hall had the list of clinics for the next 12 months. I asked to be transferred back to Birmingham Children's Hospital and she asked me when I would like an appointment. What a difference in attitude.

Russell's Hall couldn't care less but Birmingham Children's Hospital were amazing and I can't praise them enough.

Thank you for posting feedback about children’s outpatients. We are sorry to hear that you experienced difficulties when trying to rearrange an appointment to suit your daughter’s needs.

Cardiology clinics in children’s outpatients are led by consultants from Birmingham Children’s Hospital and dates for our clinic appointments are provided by them. We send appointment letters to patients as soon as we receive the list of upcoming clinics. Occasionally, we do not have the clinic dates very far in advance.

We welcome all feedback and would like to assure you that all comments are taken seriously and acted upon as part of our ongoing commitment to improving patient experience and we have passed your comments onto the manager for children’s outpatients.
