"Lovely staff, lack of information and support."

About: Conquest Hospital / Maternity

Positive pregnancy tests and severe cramping pain sought me to seek medical attention. After being refused to be seen by my GP, I called Mirlees Ward to ask for help. They were very helpful and organised for me to be seen on the same day. The nurses were compassionate, and helped me to feel at ease as I suffered an anxious wait for my appointment. After conducting further tests, the nurse took me into a small room, where I was told I was having a miscarriage. The nurse emphasised upon my pregnancy being very early, which seemed to excuse the fact that I was not given any further information on how my body would pass the lost pregnancy. I was given the emotional news, and shown the exit, without any guides for emotional support that I certainly have needed. I suffered with the emotional news of the loss of my pregnancy, and also the confusion on what was happening to my body, including pain and discomfort. I am grateful for the help I received, and kindness of the people who helped me, but do hope in future should anyone have to suffer this unfortunate loss, that they are given the right support and information they need to deal with this.

We are deeply saddened to read your posting on NHS choices, and we sincerely apologise for the fact that some of your experience was poor, as you felt there was a lack of information and ongoing support for you at such an emotional time.

It’s our understanding that staff on Mirlees ward often inform people about the ‘Miscarriage Association’ for additional information and support.

We apologise that you were not informed about this helpful organisation.

Their details are: www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk or telephone 01924 200799

Please be assured we take your comments very seriously, and have forwarded them to our Head of Midwifery to review and act upon.

Thank you for taking the time to bring your experience to our attention.

We appreciate it was a distressing time for you, and it cannot have been easy for you to recall events.
